Educational family vacations can be fun with a little preparation before you go. As a professional educator for almost 30 years I have taught in traditional classrooms, taken numerous class field trips, lead the education department of a marine mammal program, and been a docent at an art gallery. I have seen the spark so many children get when they experience this kind of learning for the first time. When I became a parent I approached planning and traveling with my children the same way I prepared for a class field trip. In addition to the itinerary planning, I would make sure to prepare the children for the visit too. We would read about where we were going, and watch some documentaries, so that the children would have some background knowledge to connect to when we were there. We might read a novel set in our travel location, or watch a movie set there. These days we sometime watch travel vlog on YouTube to see what others have done. I always build into our itinerary unique activities at our destination suited to the children's age. In this blog I want to share our adventures in the hope that others can make their travel EDventures both enjoyable and educational. Our travels include many trips to Walt Disney World, Canada, and Europe. Our family members have both celiac disease and type one diabetes so sometimes I will include tour recommendations or celiac friendly, gluten free restaurants. Please let me know if you have any questions or want further recommendations. Happy traveling!
